The 2nd Best Love Story Never Told

Dear Hypto Krypto,

When I first saw you through the pixelated visuals of Slow Dance it was love at first sight. Revolutionary, they called you. An innovation. You shocked the world and took my breath away. With your wide nose and performance tail, it was a match made in heaven. We were meant to be together. Designed for smooth rhythmic flow while generating speed. Perfect! Have my dreams come true? Full figured and carbon wrapped pinched rails, you’re a beautiful creature. You and I, we make sense.

I sit here now between a Sunrise and Sunset, 3 glasses towards a dream pondering our time together and I am perplexed. Look how far we’ve come. Do you remember when we first met? In the Wilderness. The turquoise waters of Puerto Rico. How fitting to be enchanted on the island of enchantment. I had you all to myself. Was it you or was it me? We didn’t click. There was no chemistry. We were just getting to know each other. I couldn’t wait to see you again.

Remember that time we met-up in Pismo. The wine, the crisp cold pacific, fall foliage, the cabin in the woods. We had a moment. So much potential. Conditions weren’t great. Mediocre at best. But I couldn’t help with every stroke feeling the weight of your innovation. Isn’t carbon suppose to be light? Under my chest you had no center. You fought me on every takeoff. You showed no empathy for my bad shoulder. You didn’t want to get going. Upon every pop I felt unsure of myself. You didn’t respond when I called you. Was it something I said?

Remember the morning we had in Venice? The glassy shorebreak? For the first time, under the rising sun, we danced to the rhythm of the ocean. Rights. Lefts. You’d give, I’d take. I’d give, you’d take. We were flying Peter. We figured it out.

Remember Nicaragua? I was lost and you took care of me. I was in over my head and you were sure. I was scared and you were there. I was alone and you were there. Together, we glided in early and took off fast. You held every turn like being on rails. Remember the sunset boat trip to Sandino when time stopped for an eternity. Heaven on Earth. You were there.

Then you introduced me to your sister. Her name is Merlot. Legs for days. Curves like a wine glass. The apple didn’t fall too far from the tree. She’s wild. Spontaneous. Unruly even. I am in love. I want air under my feet and turns to be loose.

The last time we saw each other, back in paradise, we didn’t even talk. It was hard for me too. Please know you’re my number one girl. Your sister and I are still getting to know each other. I am not perfect and I am still figuring this out. I don’t regret the times we’ve spent. You taught me everything. To wrap. Snap. Even lay-back. We’ve traveled the world and you’ve seen me at my worst and at my best.

You’ll always be my first love.
